Az indiai leffentyűsteknős jellemzően barna színű, sárga foltok borítják, hasa pedig fehér, és Banglades, India, Mianmar, Nepál, Pakisztán és Srí Lanka területén elterjedt. Csatornákban, rizsföldeken, de mindenekelőtt lassú folyókban él. A teljesen sárga példányok sokkal inkább védtelenek, hiszen a sötét szín segíti a rejtőzködést, így viszont rikítanak, így gyakran inkább befogják őket.

Think there's a new turtle in town? Think again! Recent reports have labelled this a new #YellowTurtle but would you believe it if we said its one of the most common turtles found in India? Contrary to recent reports, this is the #IndianFlapshellTurtle, found in major water systems of India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Normally olive green in colour with yellow spots, the recently found animal from Orissa is an albino of the same species. Albinism is a widespread phenomenon across the animal kingdom, caused by the lack of the enzyme Tyrosinase which reduces the amount of melanin (colour) in an organism. While it may seem like an exciting find, this is simply a genetic anomaly that occurs in several commonly found species! We urge our readers to remain cautious of sensationalizing articles and remember that all turtles, whatever the colour, always belong in their wild habitats!
